• The artist Alfred Renfro is himself caricatured by one of the Beaux Arts
artists on page 164 of the book.
• In 1909-1911 the Washington State Legislature was dealing with many
issues including Women’s Suffrage (Washington became one of the
early states in which women could vote) and Prohibition. Politicians were
labeled as “wets” or “drys” – see History of the Washington Legislature
1854-1963:
• Pe-Te was likely a “wet”!
