Homesteading Washington and Oregon

While reviewing “The Story of Port Angeles” book at my local library, I
happened to make an interesting discovery - the existence of a government

website where one can obtain images of some very old documents that were
granted to ancestors who filed for land patents in order to obtain homestead
land:

President Lincoln made homesteading west of the Mississippi possible when he
signed the Homestead Act in May of 1862. (There was other legislation too.)
The first homestead patent in Clallam County was made in 1866.
