Using the same website, I was able to track down land that Laura’s great-great
grandfather Charles F. Gorton homesteaded near Rose Lodge, OR. Looking at
the map of his land patent (below), it is very near to Highway 18 the one we
frequently travel whenever we go to Lincoln City, OR and very close to the
famous “H. B. Van Duzer Scenic Corridor”.
I have somewhere read a hint that at least one of Laura’s relatives may be buried
on property (not in a cemetery) near Rose Lodge, OR. My guess is that it could
be somewhere within the homesteaded land highlighted above.
