Dear June:
Thanks for the nice card with the picture. You had a wonderful
trip, I can see. To answer some of your questions, you spoke of
Joseph and Hedwig. They were mother and father to my mother.
Amand Stange, brother to Joseph had a son named Gustave, and
Willie, and daughter named Elsie. The three children are now
gone. My mother was 6 months old when she came from Germany. She
had a sister Margaret, who was your grandmother. She was about
five years older than Margaret. My mother was Gertrude. I
understand that my Grandmother, Hedwig had children in [Germany]
but they died, so there were just the two to come over. I know
little about the life in Germany, except that Hedwig’s father
was a tailor.
A video was made of my mother around six years before she passed
away. She was interviewed and she told of the old days as she
lived in the Pysht Valley. The voice is excellent on the tape,
the picture not bad. I will make a copy from it and give it to
you (about 6 weeks). It is about 25 minutes. VHS. There is a lot
of information on it, about her early years from 1900 on.
No book was ever written about your grandmother’s father. I
guess that is all.
George
