The shock was severe, but we recovered and hastened back to the main body to
restrain that desperate crew from coming on and needlessly alarming the people
of the town.
The next day, amid the jeers of the assembled population and the good natured
threats of what they would have done to us if we had let them know that we were
coming, we loaded up the county records and property and brought them to Port
Angeles.
Thus ended the bloodless battle of the county seat, of which Mr. Fisher and
myself are apparently the only survivors.
