Family Stories

go along with the stories and boy did it captivate
my young imagination. Poe was from then on, a

favorite of mine. Loved the story “The Gold Bug”
                                                     too.

When my grandfather passed away, my
mother thought to keep the book and she wrote
                                                         inside the front cover:

                                                                  “This is Stephen’s …”

Thanks mom … the orange Poe book is
now a part of my book collection – a
               treasury of memories.

Grandfather Poulsen once asked me if I had
ever read a certain book and when I said “No”
he ended up buying a copy and gifted it to me
when I next saw him. He thought it important
that I should read “Huckleberry Finn” by
Mark Twain. He was right - it was a great

book and I still have it.

He also had many books for young readers by
Thornton W. Burgess. The Burgess books are filled

with friendly woodsy creatures, all with great stories to tell. My favorite (and I
think it was his too), is “The Adventures of Patty the Beaver”. Another classic,
