Family Stories
A Very Special Thanksgiving
Note: I would not have discovered this had it not been for the genealogy work of
my cousin Michael Stanley! One day I was reviewing his latest family tree
build. There were a few names that I decided to research using my favorite
genealogy website, FamilySearch (LDS). Within minutes I realized that I could
be onto something major! I found a “memory” - a personal document attached to
one of the names. I read it and – jaw drop - Wow! My heart was racing! I very
quickly printed out some blank family worksheets. Then, using information in
the memory, more research, working backwards several generations, and finally,
recording it on my own family tree … it worked out – it appeared to be true!
What follows is my own version of that memory document. I have taken the
liberty to edit it where appropriate to reflect our family (removing the original
author’s family connection and replacing it with our own). I have also added
some bolding emphasis, and emphatic punctuation (!) as I felt it necessary! I
made a few other minor corrections too. (Credits to the original author Vesta
Turner.)
I have submitted paperwork towards proving (or disproving) this family
connection. Hopefully I will have results by next Thanksgiving – which will be
the 400th anniversary of the Pilgrims arriving in America (1620–2020). For
now, consider this “unofficial”. Regardless of the outcome, my hope is that this
document makes the upcoming Thanksgiving Holiday “A Very Special
Thanksgiving” for you and your family ...
