The long – awaited ceremony
finally took place, got the Air Medal today.
Bill Boyd went after one plane hasn’t returned
yet. No more mail from June 6 days now.
Can’t understand it. Movie “Royal
Scandal” Tall. Bankhead, Charles Coburn
good!

Went to [?] for catapult car – ready
tomorrow. Boyd brought back one plane.
I leave ship tomorrow for temporary duty
to wait for other plane. Won $185 on beach
today. Played basketball, saw Rocco
Antoneli Movie – “For Whom the Bell Tolls”
Good. Letter from John Scuptan – still no
mail from June

What a day! Went to [Sauracon ?]
temporary duty, arriving + often much travelling
+ confusion. Got the plane. What a lemon! No air
speed,
no altimeter; bum starter, right water rudder cable
broke. Had 240 gals of gas + couldn’t get off the
water, so I drained 90 gals. into the sea, the

folks back home would like that Oh Yeah! Still
no mail from June, can’t figure out why.

Stanley, Boyd + 9 men went to Jinamoc
island to work on the plane. The kids remaining
did a sweet job on the other plane. AA [Anti-
aircraft] firing
most of the day. Movie “Keys to the Kingdom”
4.0 [ranking 4 as in 4 out of 4] as good as the
book. No mail wrote long letter
to Mom. My letter asking for orders is in the
Captain’s hands. Here’s hoping it will
do me some good.

Flew over to Jinamoc Isl. this morning. We’re
getting another plane, a fouled up situation. Beach
this PM dropped $40. Had a letter from June
+ Mom. June’s was postmarked June 7 so
she still hasn’t missed a day. Movie “Something
for the Boys” but good in spite of the rain
