Honeymoon in Germany
After Gertie Stange and Tony Fernandes married in 1909, they traveled to
Germany, presumably Breslau, for their honeymoon. Gertie’s parents, Joseph
and Hattie Stange and her sister Margaret Pontine also made the trip. The
picture below shows the travelers at some sort of family gathering. Seated in the
front row are Hattie, Gertie and Margaret. Behind them is Tony, an unknown
boy and Joseph. The other individuals including the man on the horse are
unknown. Gertie didn’t enjoy the trip. She got sick with the flu while there and
spent much of the time in bed. They were gone for 3 months.
