Family Stories
Things just fell into place seeing this picture. I had information about Niels’
parents and their children. I knew they had sons Niels, Bertel and Lars. I knew
that Niels had immigrated to America and that his brother Bertel also came to
America. I found a good amount of information on Bertel (see elsewhere in this
document). I never knew until this photograph, that Lars came to America too! I
also had some knowledge of the Lunsford family. I knew about Mary Alice
Lunsford and her parents Joshua Thomas Lunsford and Hannah Susannah
Bartlett and Mary’s siblings. But now, this picture … had so much to offer.
Niels and Lars were brothers that married sisters Mary and Virginia and here
they were together, living in Round Hill. (Bertel settled in Titusville, PA.)
I believe that the photograph could have been taken on the porch at Niels’ home
even though it was found in Joshua’s cobbler shop at the stonehouse. Look at the
postcard of Niels home (see below and elsewhere in this document). It has a front
porch that just might fit?
The family photograph clearly
shows a wood-sided home with a
thick-planked wooden porch (not
stone or brick). Most of the
children in the photograph (if not
all of them) belong to Niels and
Mary.
Since that initial contact, Dan
and Elizabeth have sent me a
literal treasure of family information – especially as regards the Lunsford and
Bartlett families with names, dates and a lot more.
A picture can be worth so much! Stephen
