Family Stories
While many people in the world (said to be at least 35 million) can trace their
ancestry back to a Mayflower passenger, my research seems to indicate the
Stanley family line traces back to many passengers! The Stanley line traces
to John Alden who married Priscilla Mullins. As Priscilla’s father, mother and
brother were also aboard the Mayflower, relate to them as well. In one generation,
two people (Elizabeth Wheeler and Gideon Brownell) each being a Mayflower
descendant, got married and had a family! Due to this circumstance, the
Stanley line traces back to Mayflower passenger George Soule also!
And … as if that isn’t enough, while waiting for my application to be approved,
one morning I received an e-mail from FamilySearch – a website I use
frequently for genealogy research. The e-mail said “you have Mayflower
heritage”. Yeah, yeah, I know … I thought to myself as I read it … I’ve only been
working on it for years. Reading further though, to my surprise, it was not
about my maternal Stanley line and all of those Mayflower passengers
mentioned above. It was about yet another Mayflower passenger: Moses Fletcher!
Apparently indirectly related through my paternal Poulsen line! I’m not going
to bother to verify it – I don’t have the years to spare.
Yes, I am frustrated with the agonizingly slow verification and approval process
… but Thanksgiving must be celebrated! Enjoy your family and have a very
special Thanksgiving.
Love,
Stephen
